South Loop is a swanky neighborhood located in the southern part of Downtown Chicago. It’s an intriguing community because it has many erstwhile business buildings that are now commercial and residential properties. Dearborn Station is one of these buildings; it’s Chicago’s oldest train station that had been converted into office and retail spaces. Some South Loop residences were once factory lofts and warehouses. These conversions give the area a very unique and cool vibe.
South Loop residents love living here because many fun amenities are just a few steps away. It’s common to see people taking a quick stroll along Michigan Avenue or rollerblading along the lake shore. Museum Campus is the place for an educational and fun experience. While its name implies that it’s part of a university, it’s actually a park made up of three museums: Shedd Aquarium, Alder Planetarium, and the Field Museum of Natural History. This section is an extension of Grant Park, sometimes called “Chicago’s front yard” by the locals. At Grant Park, you can check out events like the Chicago Blues Festival and the Taste of Chicago. The community is also home to Soldier Field, a place where sports fans watch football games. The Chicago Bears play its home games at this field. Northerly Island is easily accessible and a great place to go for a taste of nature. It’s filled with wildlife habitats, walking/biking trails, an amphitheater, and a lagoon. Homebueyrs with children should note South Loop has a handful of good schools in its area: one elementary school and two high schools. One of its high schools is a selective prep school.
Most South Loop real estate properties are condos, but there are also other dwellings like single-family buildings and townhouses. These South Loop homes vary in price and age and typically have between one to five bedrooms. South Loop is a nice community in which to buy your first or next home. It’s historical charm is displayed in its many factories that are now condos and apartments. It’s also family-friendly due to its excellent schools, parks, and museums.
